Service - Opening Your Pool

As soon as that first warm spring breeze flows through, we know that you're eager to get your pool swim-ready. And opening your pool is now easier than ever.

With just a few simple steps, your pool will be ready for summer when you are. For more detailed information on how to open your pool, contact your local pool professional.

  • First, remove water and debris from your pool cover. Then, use a cover cleaner* to wash, deodorize and protect your cover before storing it in dry, cool place.
  • Remove leaves and other items from the bottom of your pool with a leaf-cleaner. Don't forget to empty the skimmer and pump strainer baskets.
  • Add water to your pool to fill it to the recommended level, which is usually halfway up the skimmer.
  • Check the installation and operation of all equipment including pump, filter, heater, diving board, ladders and chlorinator.
  • Bring a sample of pool water to your local pool professional for an analysis. Your pool professional may provide you with instructions for balancing your pool water.
  • Shock the pool to remove any organic waste.
  • Add a dose of algaecide* to prevent algae.
  • Sanitize your pool by using a stabilizer such as chlorinated tablets* in a floater, skimmer or automatic chlorinator.
  • Run the filter system for a minimum of two hours. In the meantime, brush the walls and vacuum the pool bottom.

* Always contact a pool professional before working with any chemicals.
